Wood Floor Installation - Clayton
So you’ve got your flooring all picked out. It looks great in the store and flooring samples in your house look perfect. Now what? Clayton Flooring has been installing flooring for over 16 years. If it can be put on a floor, we have put it down before! A lot of places just mention that they install, but we want to explain why we install.
No matter how good your new flooring might look in the store, if it doesn’t look good in your home, you’re not going to be satisfied. Poor installation can lead to wrinkled carpets, buckles in hardwood, tiles lifting, non-matching patterns and a number of other issues. None of these issues are going to make you a happy owner.
Our professional flooring installation team ensures that the flooring is going to be correct when we’re done. Some floorings are relatively easy to install, but others, and other situations, can require a knowledgeable and trained flooring installer. Subflooring can sometimes require special preparation or special treatment to ensure your flooring goes down correctly. After thousands of hours doing installation, our professional installers know exactly what it will take to make your flooring perfect. We will also come back out if anything odd occurs that requires a visit – a quick restretch or other similar adjustment might be needed as the flooring settles in to your home.
Clayton Flooring will install any flooring regardless of where it may have been purchased. We would like to be able to work with each customer from flooring selection to the final install to make sure each customer is fully satisifed with their experience. We realize, though, that this isn’t always how it works out. If you have purchased flooring elsewhere, please contact us for professional flooring installation. We will ensure that you have purchased enough flooring before we begin, alert you if any issues are going to arise, and be able to give you an on the money estimate of installation costs. That’s what being professional is all about.
Preparing for Flooring Installation

Install Carpet Clayton
When flooring is installed there are some things that you can do to prepare for it. Each type of flooring has it’s own particular needs and if there are any steps beyond those listed below, Clayton Flooring & Design will let you know ahead of time. If you have any questions about any part of your flooring install, don’t hesitate to contact us prior to your install date for more information.
- Dust will be created by trades people. Some projects, such as removing old floors, sanding, and grout removal are likely to have more amounts of dust. You should vacumn and clean the flooring areas that are going to be removed/installed. Large amounts of dust can be stirred up when old flooring is removed. If you have allergies, you might want to plan to be somewhere else when this is happening!
- Light wall/damage/scratching can occur. Please note that freshly painted walls and darker walls are more susceptible to scratching. When possible, have touchups or the final paint coat scheduled after the flooring is installed.
- Please make sure that anything valuable or irreplaceable or which could be broken is put out of harm’s way.
- Some clean-up work will be done by your installers, but often walls, vents, upholstery will need to be cleaned afterwards. Please note, extra dust will be noticed. Carpet installers will clean up and vacuum upon flooring install completion.
- Flooring installers will need room to work, therefore entire rooms may have to be emptied. Workers will need a place to put their tools, material, and vehicle. On multiple day projects, these areas must be available for the entirety of the project. In winter months, some work may need to be preformed inside. If possible, create a work space in your garage.

Possible plumbing, water, and heating interruptions may occur. Other trades may be required to work in conjunction with Clayton Flooring & Design for these flooring installation issues.
- The heat or air conditioning must be on for installation and must be on prior to material delivery. This allows the material to adapt to the environment before installation. Flooring can expand or contract depending on the conditions. If it’s out of sync with the room, problems could ensue.
- Doors may have to be removed and replaced. Closet organizers should be removed if they are floor mounted. Often doors will have to be trimmed after installation. This task is not a requirement of a proper flooring installation and should be arranged with a carpenter.
All of our flooring installers are in-house and will arrive at your home by appointment.
We have a non-smoking policy for all of our employees while on-site.
Our On-Site Project manager, David Wooding, personally performs a full inspection before any job is considered complete.
